AI Submarines Redefine Wind Farm Inspections

Scotland's offshore wind industry is getting a high-tech makeover.

Beam, a marine technology company, has deployed the world's first AI-driven autonomous underwater vehicle at the Seagreen wind farm, transforming how we inspect underwater infrastructure.

Traditional offshore inspections are slow, expensive, and risky and so Beam's breakthrough submarine changes everything.

The AI-powered vehicle can complete inspections 50% faster, streaming critical data directly to onshore teams while keeping human workers safely on land.

Seagreen Wind Farm, a joint venture between SSE Renewables, TotalEnergies, and PTTEP, is the perfect testing ground. As the world's deepest fixed-bottom offshore wind farm, it provides a challenging environment for cutting-edge technology.

The submarine isn't just fast - it's smart. The vehicle uses advanced AI to capture high-quality visual data and creates detailed 3D reconstructions of underwater assets.

This means wind farm operators can precisely monitor marine growth, potential erosion, and structural integrity.

"Our technology allows thorough inspections while minimizing offshore personnel risks," says Matthew Henderson from SSE Renewables. Beam's CEO Brian Allen adds, "We're enabling a safer, more efficient approach to renewable energy maintenance."

But, the implications are massive. As offshore wind farms expand into deeper and more challenging waters, AI-powered submarines offer a game-changing solution.

They reduce operational costs, enhance safety, and provide more comprehensive asset management.

Beam plans to integrate this technology across its entire fleet by 2026. The company sees this as more than a technological advancement - a critical step towards more sustainable and efficient clean energy production.

The global push for renewable energy demands innovative solutions. By making inspections faster, safer, and more informative, Beam's autonomous submarines pave the way for a more sustainable future.

This isn't just about technology. It's about reimagining how we maintain and support the infrastructure of clean energy.
